If you are looking for a run of the mill, average wedding video, don’t call Sharrone Calafiore. She and her husband, Chris, make up the team at Fiore Films, which was recently listed as one of EventDV 25 finalists (2009) — a list of studios and filmmakers on the verge of a breakthrough into the top echelon of event filmmakers. Calafiore says,

“We found ourselves generating lots of positive buzz for bringing a unique sexy vibe to wedding cinema.”

Indeed, Fiore Films offer a standout approach to wedding cinematography, and NewBlueFX is a key ingredient to the overall package. A few short years ago Calafiore left a lucrative position at a leading e-commerce company to stay home and raise her newborn son. She had been creating photomontages of family gatherings for years. After watching the montage of her son’s first birthday, her mother-in-law encouraged her to start a commercial venture, and Just Because Slideshows was born.

Question: I have some clips that would look really dramatic if I could just show the outline of the image. Does NewBlue have an effect that can create an outline look?

Answer: With NewBlue Art Effects, 10 artistic filters change the video into a painting or hand drawn image. For a line drawing, use the Line Drawing effect where you can specify the paper color, pencil color, and many other details related to the final appearance of the sketch. Other effects in the collection are Hand Drawing and Pastel Sketch.

In this edition of Tips & Techniques, Ian Stark demonstrates how use the Colorize filter in Art Effects to add drama by creating the look of a monotone image with hand painted colors. In just a few clicks, he can enhance the video by reducing color saturation and emphasizing specific hues to catch the eye and grab attention.
