Colorize & DuoChrome from Art Effects

In this edition of Tips & Techniques, Ian Stark demonstrates how use the Colorize filter and DuoChrome from NewBlue Art Effects to add some dramatic effects to plain footage. With Colorize, in just a few clicks you’ll be able to enhance video by reducing color saturation and emphasizing specific hues to catch the eye and grab attention. With DuoChrome, you can add some really exciting effects to otherwise normal clips.

Question: If I’m switching from one video editor (NLE) to another, can I bring my effects with me?

Answer: Recently many editors have been switching NLE hosts. NewBlueFX works with several NLEs and chances are that if you’re switching to a new host, you’ll be able to bring all your favorite NewBlue plugins along with you. Simply run the installer (if you need to download the installation file again please visit www.newbluefx.com/downloads), select the new NLE, and hit continue. If you are installing on the same computer as your previous NLE, you won’t even need to re-enter your serial, your copies should already be activated for the computer.

If your new NLE uses a different operating system, a new license will be required. See here for more details on using multiple operating systems.

For help finding your effects by video editor see our previous Q&A for Where can I find your effects in my video editor.

Please note that while we are currently working on an update, our plugins are not yet compatible with Final Cut Pro X. We’ll send an update notification via our Storyboard Newsletter and blog once FCPX is compatible.

Last month we launched: Video Essentials V. This distinct collection of 10 highly attractive tools make post-production faster and easy-to-do.

Since NewBlue plugins are always available as a free trial, you might want to try plugins like Old TV, which creates the most sophisticated Old TV look we’ve ever seen. Or play around with, Selective Focus which creates a shallow depth of field in seconds (in fact, Ian Stark covers Selective Focus in our Tips & Techniques for August). Video Essentials V is quite simple to install and even easier to use. Try Video Essentials V today.

Ian Stark shows us how to use Selective Focus and Outline from Video Essentials V.
With Selective Focus, you can create a shallow depth of field or focus in on a subject with just a few clicks.

Outline can create an outline on anything with an alpha channel like text, chroma key footage, or anything with a transparent layer.
