Titler Pro 4 and transition effects applied to a rectangle - first frame shows 100% opacity

It seems that if I add a rectangle paragraph and then add a smear transition (animation) - placing the timeline cursor at the start of the rectangle shows the rectangle at 100% opacity (which is incorrect). Advancing one frame and the opacity is back to zero and the animation plays correctly for the balance. This flash at 100% opacity is found in the rendered title as well.

The only way around it is to add keyframes to the face for the first and second frame of the rectangle. Set the opacity on the first frame to zero. Then the rectangle w/ smear plays out fine. This doesn't happen with text objects and it doesn't appear to happen when a rectangle is burried inside a text object, either.

This is more than annoying - can't imagine how this got past SQA assuming that similar techniques are used when creating the template collections sold by NB but...
